pouvoir and vouloir are variations on a theme.

They have the following conjugations:

pouvoir
je peux nous pouvons
tu peux vous pouvez
elle, il, on peut elles, ils peuvent

vouloir
je veux nous voulons
tu veux vous voulez
elle, il, on veut elles, ils veulent

In the singular, the final 'x' and the final 't' are not pronounced, so the singular forms are pronounced the same.
In the third-person plural, the 'ent' is not pronounced, but the 'v' or the 'l' is.

The thing to notice is the stem change in the 'nous' and the 'vous' form (which changes the pronunciation, too).

- Qu'est-ce que tu veux faire aujourd'hui ?
- Je veux aller à la plage, mais je ne peux pas. Mes parents ne veulent pas me    prêter leur voiture.
- Nous pouvons y aller à pied, si tu veux.
